Simmer Privacy Policy
Effective September 29, 2026
Simmer is a personal cookbook for iPhone and iPad. You do not need a Simmer account. Simmer has no developer-operated server, advertising, analytics SDK, or tracking service.
Your cookbook stays on your device
Saved recipes, source links, recipe captions and comments, notes, favorites, selected photos, pending shared imports, and the free-import count are stored on your device. Simmer and its Share Extension share a private local app container so you can bring a recipe from another app into your cookbook.
Recipe parsing and text recognition in selected screenshots or photos run on your device. Simmer does not upload your photos, cookbook, or pasted recipe text to the developer or an extraction service. The photo picker gives Simmer access only to the items you select. Simmer does not scan your entire photo library.
Simmer does not offer cookbook sync or an export backup. Depending on your device settings, iOS may include app data in its backups. Apple controls those backups.
Website requests and browser sessions
When you import a web link or display a source photo, your device contacts the source website or its image provider. Those services receive normal network information, such as your IP address and the requested page or image, and their own privacy policies apply. Simmer may request public TikTok metadata to read a caption.
The Facebook import browser can keep its website session on your device, including cookies, so you do not have to sign in each time. Sign-in takes place on Facebook's page. Simmer does not read your password or send credentials to its developer. You can sign out on Facebook's page, or choose Clear browser sign-in data in Simmer's cookbook settings to remove local website data. Other automatic rendered-page imports use a temporary browser session.
Opening or sharing an original source link takes you to the website or to the app you choose. Those destinations handle the information you provide under their own policies.
Purchases
Apple handles payment for the optional Unlimited Recipe Imports purchase. Simmer checks Apple's verified purchase information on your device to enable the feature. The developer does not receive your payment-card details, and Simmer does not send purchase receipts to a developer server. Apple may retain transaction records under Apple's privacy policy.
Data controls and retention
You can edit or delete recipes in your cookbook. Deleting a recipe removes it from the cookbook, and Simmer attempts to remove its selected image when no other saved recipe uses it. Browser data is cleared separately in Simmer's settings. Deleting Simmer from your device removes its local cookbook and app data. Restoring a device backup may restore data that existed in that backup.
Deleting the app does not cancel or erase your Apple purchase. You can restore an eligible purchase using the same Apple Account. The free-import history is local to this installation.
